Jerry the dog, Wicksteed Park, Northamptonshire

This statue commemorates the pooch that belonged to Charles Wicksteed, founder of Wicksteed Park in Kettering. Jerry (1920–28) was much loved by the childless Charles, who used to drive his motor car around the site of the park with his canine friend at his side.

Wicksteed Park are celebrating at the moment – they heard recently that their £1.78m application to the National Lottery Heritage Fund has been approved and that their @Play project can go ahead. I was lucky enough to work with them on the interpretation aspects of the application, which we are all delighted to have passed.

Go pay Jerry a visit this bank holiday weekend and help them cheer on the new project.
