With its dinghies, dilutants, solutions and snowfall, is this a poem? Or is it a painting? Given how much I enjoy looking at it, I don't really mind if it’s neither or both. The intertwined words and phrases, made in acrylic on paper, draw our eyes in a thousand different ways, provoking thoughts and asking questions of our relationship with water. It’s currently on display in New Zealander O’Brien’s retrospective exhibition From an island in the antipodes at Manchester Poetry Library (part of Manchester Metropolitan University) until 10 February 2024.
