The River Thames, full of evocative atmosphere, mysterious light and radiant colour as captured by someone who understood exactly how to replicate the effects of light on the canvas. It’s on display in London, just a few metres from where Monet made the painting as part of a display that’s bringing a load of his pictures from his stays in the city together. Moody, misty and mysterious, they make us look at the Thames and London in a different way.
The exhibition Monet and London: views of the Thames is on at The Courtauld for the rest of the year.
One of the very first objects of the week was one of Monet’s paintings of Westminster. I wonder if my labels have got any better in that time.
